What it is
Gorilla Tower is a tall tower of red girders and wooden ladders. At the very top, a grumpy gorilla guards the princess and rolls coconuts down the floors, one zig-zag at a time. Your child runs left and right, jumps over the coconuts and climbs from floor to floor, picking up bananas on the way. Crabs walk back and forth and bees buzz across some floors, so it pays to wait for the right moment. A bump makes the hero dizzy and drops them one floor, never all the way down. At the top, the hero gives the gorilla a banana, he cheers up with a big grin, and the princess is free. Eight levels add floors, crabs, bees and quicker coconuts, up to a seven-floor tower with everything at once, and each level keeps a best time to beat.
How to play
- On a laptop or desktop: Arrow keys left and right to run; up and down climb a ladder when you're standing at one. Space jumps (up jumps too when there's no ladder). Jump over coconuts and wait for crabs and bees to pass. The grid button opens the level menu.
- On a tablet or phone: Use the round arrow pad: left and right to run, up and down to climb a ladder when you're standing at one. The big orange button jumps. Jump over coconuts and wait for crabs and bees to pass. The grid button opens the level menu.
What children learn
- Timing: jumping at the right moment and waiting for a gap
- Planning a route up the tower, ladder by ladder
- Hand–eye coordination with left, right and jump
- Patience and bouncing back after a tumble
Tips for parents
Play the first level together: show that the arrows climb the ladders and the big orange button jumps. Cheer the jumps over coconuts. If your child gets frustrated, a tumble only drops one floor, and the menu has easier levels. Older children like racing their best time on each level.
Questions parents ask
- What age is it for?
- About 5 to 9. It needs timing and coordination that most children have from around five. The first level has three floors and slow coconuts; the last of the eight has seven floors, three crabs, three bees and quick coconuts.
- Is it like the old arcade game with the barrels?
- The idea of climbing ladders while things roll down is a classic, made gentle here: there are no lives to lose and no game over. A bump only drops the hero one floor, and the gorilla is grumpy, not scary, and cheers up with a banana.
- Is there a timer?
- There's a clock that counts up while you climb, and each level keeps your best time in the menu. Nothing runs out: take as long as you need.
