What it is
Spell It Out shows a picture, an emoji cat for example, and its word with a letter missing: C_T. Bubba the whale says what to do, and the child presses or taps the missing letter. There are eight levels of eight pictures. Levels 1 to 5 add a letter at a time, from three-letter words like CAT to long ones like CROCODILE; levels 6 and 7 leave two letters out; level 8 asks for a whole short word. A right answer fills the tile with a chime and sparkles. A wrong one shows the correct letter and play goes on, so every level finishes. Fewer misses earn more stars, and each level keeps its best. The original game is still there as the endless card: three lives and a best score to beat.
How to play
On a laptop or desktop
Pick a level, then type the missing letter on the keyboard. When two letters or a whole word are missing, they fill in from left to right. The number keys 1 to 8 also pick a level.
On a tablet or phone
Pick a level, then tap the letter on the on-screen keyboard. Used letters gray out so the choice narrows. The grid button at the top right goes back to the levels.

Tips for parents
Say the word out loud slowly and let the child hear the missing sound before they look for the letter. If they are guessing, cover the picture and read the word together first.

Are the words in American or British spelling?
The word list uses spellings that are the same in both, like CAT, MOON and FROG, so nobody is marked wrong for a regional difference.
What happens after a wrong letter?
The right letter is shown and play goes on, so a level always finishes. Fewer misses earn more stars. Only the endless card has three lives, with a best score to beat.
My child can't type yet. Does it still work?
Yes. On touch devices an on-screen keyboard appears, and on desktop a parent can point to the key.
